Daily Quran — Read, Listen, Reflect

Installation Guide for the Daily Quran Extension

Daily Quran is available for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, and can be built from source for Firefox. Follow the steps below for your browser.

Google Chrome

Step 1: Open the Chrome Web Store
  • Launch the Google Chrome browser on your computer.
  • Go to the Chrome Web Store by entering chromewebstore.google.com in the address bar.
    • Step 2: Search for "Daily Quran"
  • Use the search bar at the top-left corner of the page.
  • Type "Daily Quran" and press Enter.
    • Step 3: Select the Daily Quran extension
  • Find Daily Quran in the results — it is listed with its logo and a short description.
  • Click the name of the extension to open its details page.
    • Step 4: Add the extension to Chrome
  • Click the Add to Chrome button at the top-right of the details page.
  • A confirmation window appears listing the permissions the extension needs. Review them and click Add extension.
    • Step 5: Wait for the installation to finish
  • Chrome downloads and installs the extension automatically.
  • A notification confirms that it has been added, and the Daily Quran icon appears next to the address bar.
    • Step 6: Pin the extension (optional)
  • Click the Extensions icon (the puzzle piece) on the Chrome toolbar.
  • Find Daily Quran in the drop-down list.
  • Click the Pin icon next to it so the extension stays visible in the toolbar.
    • Step 7: Start using Daily Quran
  • Click the Daily Quran icon to open the popup — an ayah is loaded and waiting.
  • Use the BN/EN toggle to switch between the Bengali and English translation.
  • Pick any of the 114 surahs to listen to, and star the ones you return to most so they stay at the front of the list.
  • Turn on continuous play to let one surah lead into the next, and control playback from any page by right-clicking and choosing Daily Quran.

    • Microsoft Edge

    Install from the Edge Add-ons store
  • Open the Daily Quran listing on Edge Add-ons — or search for "Daily Quran" at microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons.
  • Click Get, then Add extension in the confirmation window.
  • Pin it from the Extensions icon in the toolbar, the same way as in Chrome. Everything after that works identically.

    • Firefox

    Build it from source
  • Daily Quran builds for Firefox from the same source tree, but it has not been submitted to Firefox Add-ons yet, so there is no one-click install.
  • Clone github.com/devkayes/daily-quran, run pnpm install and then pnpm build:firefox.
  • Open about:debugging in Firefox, choose This Firefox, then Load Temporary Add-on and select the built manifest.

    • What the permissions are for

    Your browser lists the permissions before you confirm the install. Daily Quran asks for as few as it can, and collects no data — here is what each one is used for:

  • Storage — Saves your language choice, favourite surahs, volume and playback position on your own device. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Offscreen (Chrome and Edge) — Lets a recitation keep playing after the popup closes. Firefox does not need this permission.
  • Right-click menu — Adds the "Daily Quran" entry to the context menu so you can control playback without opening the popup. It does not read the page you right-clicked.
  • Access to pro.proggamoyquran.com — Fetches the ayah and its Bengali translation. This is the only site the extension is granted access to.

    • The extension asks for no access to your tabs, browsing history or the content of the pages you visit. The full details are in the privacy policy.

    Troubleshooting Tips:
  • If the extension is not working after installation, try restarting your browser.
  • Make sure you are on a recent version of Chrome, Edge or Firefox to avoid compatibility issues.
  • Make sure you have an internet connection. Ayahs, translations and recitations are all fetched over the network, so Daily Quran does not work offline.
  • If a recitation will not start, give it a moment — the longest surahs are large files, and a loading indicator is shown while one is being fetched.
